Dr. Beth Elenko a tenured Associate Professor in the Occupational Therapy (OT) program at New York Institute of Technology and recognized as a fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). She received her entry-level occupational therapy degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1987, and her advanced master’s (1995) and doctoral degree from New York University in applied research in OT in 2000. This is where her clinical, academic, and scholarly journey began to intertwine. Dr. Elenko has worked extensively in the pediatrics population from NICU to school-based practice, but most notably in early intervention (EI). She believes this time is critical for OT to engage with young children and their families in family-centered best practices to impact them positively toward their future. Dr. Elenko currently serves as a member of the New York City Local Early Intervention Coordinating Council (LEICC). She has served on the AOTA Children and Youth Special Interest Section (CYSIS) standing committee for 6 years. She is well published regarding her research interests in EI. She continues to practice in EI.
Research Assistants:
Madison Becker received her Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences from New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in 2025. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in occupational therapy at NYIT and is expected to graduate in 2027. Madison has extensive work experience with kids, outside of the occupational therapy field and hopes to become a pediatric occupational therapist in the future.
Olivia Bonomolo recieved her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from SUNY New Paltz in 2020. She is currently completing her Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy at NYIT and is graduating in May, 2026. Olivia has a passion for working with adults in a medically complex setting. Additionally, Olivia is interested in working with the NICU population, and emotionally providing support to diverse families throughout treatment.
Adriana Farrugia received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology from St. Joseph's University - Long Island in 2023. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy at NYIT and is expected to graduate in 2027. Adriana has a passion for working with children and their families and hopes to become a pediatric occupational therapist in the future.
Merima Kokale received her Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation with a minor in Psychology from St. Joseph's University - Brooklyn in 2019. She is currently completing her Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy at NYIT and is graduating in May, 2026. Merima has previous volunteer experience working for Special Olympics, which provides athletic competition for children with intellectual disabilities, fostering physical fitness, confidence, joy, and inclusion.
